About the Founder, Timothy Cansler

Tim CanslerHaving two decades of experience working closely with congressional leaders, members on key Committees and regulatory officials, Tim Cansler, Founder and Chief Strategist of Cansler Consulting, continues to successfully achieve legislative and policy initiatives vital to client interests.

Tim’s successful strategies have consistently helped educate Members of Congress leading to federal budget authorization and appropriations sought by clients. He has also been successful in working with regulatory officials to ensure programs beneficial to his clients’ interests are implemented as intended.
Tim is currently using his experience to provide counsel as a senior executive of a professional association responsible for regulating the $36 billion California agriculture industry which is the largest, most diverse agriculture industry in the U.S. and the eleventh largest economy in the world.

Before starting his consulting practice, Tim held key economic and marketing positions with the Executive Branch at the Department of Agriculture. In this capacity Tim advised the Undersecretary of the Department of Agriculture responsible for operations of three federal agencies administering over $2.6 billion in Marketing and Regulatory Programs (MRP). The Marketing and Regulatory Program promotes and expedites domestic and international trade of U.S. agricultural products. The Agencies of MRP actively participate in national and international bodies that structure a variety of industry standards.

During his service, Tim made recommendations to cabinet-level officials on multiple, complex marketing issues including Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (mad cow disease) and Avian influenza. This culminated in his participation in international trade negotiations in Beijing, China and Mexico to continue market access for U.S. beef and poultry products and varying phytosanitary trade issues. Tim also offered intricate solutions on other complex marketing and economic policies including phytosanitary trade disputes, supply-chain development, price discovery and transparency, transportation and biotechnology. During his tenure at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Tim was recognized for his work as a recipient of the Administrator’s Award for Policy Implementation of the 2002 Farm Bill.

For nearly a decade, Tim gained vital experience building grassroots coalitions, successfully developing a statewide campaign to defeat constitutional amendments and lobbying Congress on behalf of one of the nation's largest membership organizations, the Farm Bureau.

Having worked with members of Congress and regulatory officials since 1987, Tim possesses an in-depth knowledge of the relationship between legislation, regulation and politics and its impacts on domestic and international markets. His proven abilities to successfully manage difficult, multi-faceted economic, marketing, legislative and regulatory issues sets him apart as you consider adding the next member to your team to achieve your goals.
